It was a mixed weather forecast for today. We thought it was going to be windy with some rain showers in the late afternoon. We had booked golf for 2.30pm not knowing what to expect. We saw 2 cranes digging up the course - glad we do not have them at Lutterworth!!
As it turned out it was very windy when we got up. The Players PGA competition at Sawgrass was stopped because of thunderstorms before we left for our golf. When we arrived at the course we were playing at, it was very windy but no rain. Ben asked if there would be a hooter to stop us if thunder was imminent and was told that the sports centre next door to the golf club would sound a hooter if there was any chance of thunder. We started to play in the sun and wind and by the time we reached the 10th it was beginning to look a bit grey. The hooter eventually went off when we were on the 12th hole but no one else seemed to take much notice of it. We finished then as we didn't want to get too wet. We had to call in at the supermarket on the way home and just as we left it started to rain and the sky looked very black.
We drove back in a downpour amid flashes of lightning and had to sit in the car for about half an hour waiting for the rain to abate so that we could get from the car to the house and bring the shopping in without getting drenched. Later this evening the rain and wind quietened down and we look forward to what weather we get tomorrow.
